Accessibility Plan: Increasing participation of disabled pupils in the curriculum

Killamarsh Junior School is committed to ensuring that all pupils, including those with disabilities, have equal access to a high-quality education. Our Accessibility Plan outlines how we will continue to improve access to the curriculum over time:

Objectives:

  1. Curriculum Access
    • Ensure all curriculum materials are available in accessible formats (e.g. large print, simplified language, audio).
    • Use adaptive technologies and resources to support pupils with sensory, physical, or cognitive needs.
    • Provide differentiated teaching strategies and personalised learning plans.
  2. Staff Training
    • Deliver regular training to staff on inclusive teaching practices and supporting pupils with a range of disabilities.
    • Promote awareness of specific needs such as autism, ADHD, and physical impairments.
  3. Physical Environment
    • Review and improve classroom layouts to ensure ease of movement and access.
    • Ensure that learning spaces are calm, sensory-friendly, and adaptable to individual needs.
  4. Monitoring and Evaluation
    • Track the progress and participation of disabled pupils through regular reviews.
    • Involve pupils and families in planning and evaluating support strategies.
  5. Engagement and Communication
    • Strengthen partnerships with parents, carers, and external agencies to support inclusive learning.
    • Provide clear communication channels for feedback and concerns.

This plan is reviewed annually and updated as needed to reflect the changing needs of our pupils and the school community.
