Spot light on Nurture

This month, our school was the main feature of the Derbyshire Engagement Team's, Nurture News. We are very proud of our new provision and so were Lauren and Nicola from the team. Here's what they had to say...

We were lucky to hold our latest Nurture Network at Killamarsh Junior School. The school is fairly new to Nurture starting their groups in January 2025. They have since expanded their provision to include Nurture principles alongside their curriculum in the morning, have created a wonderful and inviting space, drop in sessions for children who need wellbeing check ins and have had great feedback from both children and parents.

We will remember.

Killamarsh Junior School at 10 Downing Street

Just before the summer break, I had the incredible honour of representing Killamarsh Junior School at the Public Sector Reception held at 10 Downing Street on 1st July 2025. It was a proud moment for our school and a wonderful opportunity to share our story on a national stage.

I was joined by our local MP, Louise Jones, and together we entered through the iconic front door of Number 10. Walking through the historic corridors lined with portraits of former British leaders was a surreal experience, and it set the tone for a truly memorable afternoon.

In the beautiful gardens of Number 10, we were treated to refreshing drinks and delicious canapés while mingling with leaders from across the public sector. I had the opportunity of speaking directly with the Prime Minister, where I shared the journey of improvement that Killamarsh Junior School has been on. I spoke passionately about the challenges we face and the need for greater support for schools like ours—schools that are working tirelessly to provide the best possible education for every child.

A particularly charming moment was meeting Larry the cat, the famous feline resident of Number 10, who made a surprise appearance and added a touch of warmth to the day.

We captured several photos from the visit, including:

  • A proud moment standing outside the front door of Number 10.
  • A conversation with the Prime Minister.
  • A light-hearted encounter with Larry the cat.

This visit was not only a celebration of our school’s progress but also a chance to advocate for the future of education. I left feeling inspired and proud of everything our staff, pupils, and community have achieved.

We look forward to continuing our journey and building on this recognition to ensure Killamarsh Junior School remains a place of excellence, opportunity, and ambition.
