English
After half term, we will be looking at a picture book called 'The Whale.' There is a legend that a Great Spotted Whale lives in the ocean, although a sighting fifty years ago was never corroborated. Now two young whale watchers each set out to find the whale, one armed with sound-recording equipment, the other with a camera. During our writing lessons, children will be writing speech, recounts, newspaper articles and will create a film pitch of the book.
Reading
In reading, we will be reading 'When the stars come out.' This wonderful book looks at what makes the universe so magical at night. From shooting stars and moonbows to the Polar night and the Northern lights.
Maths
After Christmas: We will be finishing off our fraction topic and moving on to 'converting measurements' and 'ratio'. Year 6 children will also be doing regular SATS practise and we will be lots of arithmetic questions to develop their skills and confidence. Below is a link which lets children try arithmetic questions online.
