Term 3

English - Children will be writing poems, setting descriptions, diary entries, dialogue and letters of thanks based on the book, Our Tower by Joseph Coelho and Richard Johnson. In our whole class reading lessons, we will be reading The Lost Spells by Robert MacFarlane and Jackie Morris.

 

Maths - Place Value - This term we will be looking  at multiplication and division. Year 3 will focus on multiples of 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8. Year 4 will focus on multiples of 3, 6, 9, 7, 11 and 12.

 

Geography - Misty Mountains, Winding Rivers -  This project teaches children about the characteristics and features of rivers and mountain ranges around the world, including a detailed exploration of the ecosystems and processes that shape them and the land around them. They will learn how to use the eight points of a compass, four and six-figure grid references, symbols and a key to locate and plot geographical places and features on a map, as well as how contour lines are used to show the topography of an area. 

 

Science - States of matter - This project teaches children about solids, liquids and gases and their characteristic properties. They observe how materials change state as they are heated and cooled, and learn key terminology associated with these processes.

 

Art - Vista - This project teaches children about the techniques that artists use when composing landscape images, such as colour and atmosphere.
