English - In Writing, children will read The Pied Piper of Hamelin by Michael Morpurgo and write in role, write information reports, adverts and formal letters In Reading, they will read The Pied Piper of Hamelin (Narrative Poem) by Robert Browning. There will be opportunities for children to practice retrieval, summarising, comparing, predicting and sequencing throughout.
White Rose Maths - Money, Time, Shape and Statistics - This term we will be looking at fractions and decimals. Year 3 will focus converting pounds to pence, telling the time up to 1 minute recognising 2-D and 3-D shapes and bar charts. Year 4 will focus on using decimals in money, converting analogue and digital, triangles and quadrilaterals and line graphs.
History - Ancient Civilisations - The children will learn about three of the earliest civilisations in the world; ancient Sumer, ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley civilisation. They will study the ancient Sumerian and ancient Egyptian civilisation in detail, to discover how crucial factors like water sources and farming helped them to develop and thrive. They will find out about important inventions and the growth of cities. They will also study the lives of different people in society, including the roles of kings and pharaohs. The children will reflect on their learning by identifying the similarities and differences between the two civilisations.
Science - Grouping and classifying - This project teaches children about electrical appliances and safety. They construct simple series circuits and name their parts and functions, including switches, wires and cells. They investigate electrical conductors and insulators and identify common features of conductors.
Art - Islamic Art - This project teaches children about the features of Islamic art. They make geometric patterns and motifs on paper, with fabric and in clay. They use their learning to create a high relief clay tile, decorated with geometric patterns.
DT - Tomb Builders - This project teaches children about simple machines, including wheels, axles, inclined planes, pulleys and levers, exploring how they helped ancient builders to lift and move heavy loads.
